Is your child in Primary?
Until the bus departs, your child can enjoy Childminding, including supervised care or Afternoon Activities. That way, the time before departure becomes an enjoyable part of the afternoon. Playing, meeting friends or trying something new sounds better than “When are we finally leaving?”, doesn’t it?
A Childminding hour package is required to use this service. You book it separately from the school bus. It is not included in the bus fare.

The school bus is also available to Secondary students. A little more independence for them and one less journey on the family chauffeur’s schedule. All routes therefore depart from the ESRM at the following times:

We are now accepting registrations for the Main-Kinzig Express route. Frankfurt and Taunus are already operating: you can book places on the Frankfurt route or join the Taunus waiting list. If demand is sufficient, we may be able to add capacity at short notice.

This is the currently planned route. The stated times apply to morning journeys from January 2027. Subject to change. The route, stops and travel times may still be adjusted. We will share further information about the launch in good time.
A light-hearted reality check: We’ll do everything we can to make the journey as pleasant as possible. But we’ll probably still have to allow for the morning traffic towards Bad Vilbel. Our bus can do a lot of things; flying over the cars in front of it isn’t one of them yet. At least you won’t have to be the one behind the wheel.

Arrival times at the stops have not yet been confirmed. For initial planning, we estimate approximately 35 minutes to Niederdorfelden, followed by another 15 minutes each to Maintal and Hanau. Times may still change depending on traffic and the final route. We will share the confirmed timetable before the service starts.

Fuel and vehicle wear are only part of the cost. Your time matters too, and there are better ways to spend it than memorising the bumper of the car ahead. Our example calculation for one child shows the two separately, based on 185 school days and a total of 40 km of driving per school day.

Excluding the value of your time: Fuel and wear come to €2,079.40 a year. In this example, the bus costs €224.60 more per year, or about €18.72 per month. The large calculated benefit comes from the value placed on your time, not from equivalent savings in your bank account.
Assumptions and individual circumstances
Less driving. More living.
For our example, we assume 20 km each way, totalling 40 km per school day. Over 185 school days, that’s 7,400 km a year. We also assume fuel consumption of 7 litres per 100 km, a fuel price of €2.30 per litre and €0.12 per kilometre for wear and maintenance. These are illustrative figures, not live updates from the nearest petrol station.
Then there’s your time: we estimate one hour a day at a personal value of €50 per hour. Whether you use that hour for work, exercise or enjoying a coffee while it’s still hot is entirely up to you. It won’t automatically put more money in your bank account, but time you don’t spend stuck in traffic is valuable in its own right.
Our calculation uses a total of 40 km a day. If you drive 40 km both in the morning and in the afternoon, that’s 80 km a day, so the figures would change accordingly. We’ve also excluded insurance, vehicle tax, financing and depreciation. Not to mention the occasional sigh at a red light.
Of course, every family’s routine is different: journeys to the bus stop and any additional Childminding costs need to be taken into account. Siblings, carpooling or a school run that’s already on your way to work can also change the comparison. You know best what your time is worth. And we can probably agree that there are nicer places to be than rush-hour traffic.

Is there an afternoon return journey?
Yes. Both return journeys leave the ESRM at 16:15 Monday to Thursday and at 14:30 on Fridays. The buses then serve their respective stops in reverse order.
How much does a place cost?
Frankfurt and Taunus: €192 per month, charged over 12 months from September to August.
Main-Kinzig: from January 2027 €182 per month*. Payments will be collected monthly from January through August 2027.

What does my Primary child do until the bus leaves?
Childminding offers supervised care, time with friends and Afternoon Activities. No need to schedule boredom into the day! An additional Childminding hour package is required and is not included in the bus fare.
Why does the bus leave as late as 16:15 or 14:30?
We want Secondary students to be able to use the school bus too. That’s why both routes leave at 16:15 Monday to Thursday and at 14:30 on Fridays.
